Accreditation is a vital part of Manchester University’s commitment to academic excellence and institutional integrity. As a university accredited by the Higher Learning Commission since 1932, we undergo regular evaluations to ensure our programs, policies, and practices meet rigorous standards.

In addition to institutional accreditation, several of our academic programs hold discipline-specific accreditations that reflect the strength and quality of our offerings. Athletic Training Accreditation

The Master of Athletic Training program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), 1061 American Lane, Suite 310, Schaumburg, IL 60173. The next comprehensive program review will be in 2026-2027.

Nursing Program Accreditation

The Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program and the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at Manchester University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

The Traditional Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing programs are fully accredited by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency.

Nutrition and Nutrigenomics Program Accreditation

Pharmacy Program Accreditation

Manchester University’s Doctor of Pharmacy Program is accredited by Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, 2135 South LaSalle Street, Suite 4100, Chicago, IL 60503; 312/644-3575; FAX 312/664-4652. Current accreditation approval is effective through June 2030, with a comprehensive review in 2029-2030.

Physical Therapy Accreditation

Candidate for Accreditation is an accreditation status of affiliation with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education that indicates the program may matriculate students in technical/professional courses. Achievement of Candidate for Accreditation status does not assure that the program will be granted Initial Accreditation.

Candidacy is considered to be an accredited status as such the credits and degree earned from a program with Candidacy status are considered, by CAPTE, to be from an accredited program. Therefore, students in the charter (first) class should be eligible to take the licensure exam even if CAPTE withholds accreditation at the end of the candidacy period. That said, it is up to each state licensing agency, not CAPTE, to determine who is eligible for licensure. Information on licensing requirements should be directed to the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy or specific state boards (a list of state boards and contact information is available on FSBPT’s website.

Social Work Accreditation

The baccalaureate level social work program was first accredited in 1977 by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Manchester had a review in June 2023 and current accreditation approval is effective through June 2031.

Teacher Education Accreditation

The baccalaureate level teacher education program is accredited by the Indiana Professional Standards Board and by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (CAEP). Manchester had a review in Fall 2021 and current accreditation approval is effective through 2028.

Program Learning Outcomes

Applied Math

PLO1: Be able to perform mathematical computations in calculus (one and several variables), linear algebra, and discrete mathematics (combinatorics and Boolean logic).

  • SLO1.1: Students will demonstrate mastery of limits, derivatives, definite integrals, and indefinite integrals by passing a departmental exam near the end of their sophomore year.
  • SLO1.2: Students will demonstrate mastery of solving linear equations, and computations with matrices, linear transformations, and vector spaces by passing a departmental exam near the end of their sophomore year.
  • SLO1.3: Students will demonstrate mastery of combinatorial and Boolean logic computations by passing a departmental exam near the end of their sophomore year.

PLO2: Have a conceptual understanding of mathematics in the following areas: calculus, linear algebra, abstract mathematics (logic and proof), probability and statistics, algebra, and analysis.

  • SLO2.1: Students will take the ETS Major Field Test in Mathematics during their senior year and score in the top half on those areas mentioned above. (Note: areas included in the ETS test such as complex analysis and topology which we do not offer will be ignored.)

PLO3: Be able to correctly formulate a mathematical statement and to write a coherent proof.

  • SLO3.1: Students will create a portfolio showing at least four proofs they have done in each of our four proof intensive courses. For the two upper-level courses, each proof will include the statement of the result, an initial proof with instructor’s comments and a final revised version.

PLO4: Be able to model real-world applications by formulating appropriate assumptions, making approximations, and testing predictions.

  • SLO4.1: Students will create a portfolio showing at least two projects in at least two different courses, showing the problem, the assumptions, the mathematical development, and the evalution of the model.

PLO5: Be able to communicate mathematical content to others in both written and oral form.

  • SLO5.1: Students will complete a senior project or an internship, producing both a well-written paper and a well-presented talk.
Environmental Studies

PLO 1: Students will apply critical thinking skills in relation to environmental issues.

  • SLO 1.1: Synthesize information from a variety of sources that not only demonstrates an ability to identify an environmental problem but also propose options for solutions.
  • SLO 1.2: Effectively communicate scientific findings, from published and student-generated data, in oral and written formats.
  • SLO 1.3: Design, conduct and present (orally and in writing) independent research that is consistent with the standards and practices of research in environmental science.

PLO 2: Students will integrate the many disciplines and fields that intersect with environmental concerns.

  • SLO 2.1: Synthesize the interactions of scientific, economic, and political perspectives regarding local, regional, and global environmental issues in the context of current literature.
  • SLO 2.2: Formulate an action plan for sustainable alternatives to environmental issues that integrate ecological, social, and economic perspectives.

PLO 3: Students will express an awareness, knowledge, and appreciation of the intrinsic values of ecological processes and communities.

  • SLO 3.1: Describe the fundamental structure and function of natural systems, and how humans can alter these systems.
  • SLO 3.2: Apply qualitative and quantitative research methods to gain empirical evidence for environmental decision-making.
Peace Studies

PLO 1: Students will understand and analyze the dynamics of conflict, be it interpersonal, intragroup, or between nations or global parties.

  • SLO1.1: Students will analyze conflicts from different disciplinary perspectives including psychological, social, cultural, political, economic, environmental, religious, and historical ones.
  • SLO1.2: Students will demonstrate an understanding of definitions and the causes of violence, both direct and structural (such as economic, environmental, racial-ethnic, religious, and gender) and the relationship between justice and peace.

PLO2: Students will know nonviolent strategies to address conflicts and challenges to peace and justice.

  • SLO2.1: Students will explain why and how individuals and groups use nonviolence to promote peace and social justice, including the principled and pragmatic rationales for its use; the varieties of nonviolent action; the dynamics of nonviolent action; and the role of strategic planning in nonviolent campaigns
  • SLO2.2: Students will develop strategies for the prevention of violence, the promotion of social justice, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts at the interpersonal, intergroup, and international levels.
  • SLO2.3: Students will develop mediation and conflict resolution skills that are valuable in both personal and professional life.

PLO3: Students will develop strong critical thinking, writing, and communication skills that are transferable to any field.

Medical Laboratory Science

PLO1: Students will explore the natural sciences and relate them to human health.

  • SLO1.1: Students will master biological and chemical concepts in coursework spanning various sub-disciplines of biology and chemistry.

PLO2: Students will develop technical laboratory skills.

  • SLO2.1: Students will perform basic wet laboratory skills commonly used in the disciplines of both biology and chemistry

Human Performance

1. Students will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the scientific terminology, facts, principles, laws, and concepts of exercise as appropriate for an entry-level health/fitness professional.

  • Students will identify and master key concepts and principles of human performance (eg: General Physical Preparedness, General Fitness Markers, Nutrition, Strength and Conditioning, and enhancing Athletic Performance).

2. Students will apply fundamental human movement principles in the areas of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics to a variety of exercise/fitness contexts and populations in order to design safe and effective training programs for a multitude of populations.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will analyze functional movement to identify pre-existing conditions in human movement and how to best navigate limiting factors and optimize performance.
  • Students will evaluate and create safe and effective exercise and fitness programs for a multitude of athlete/client populations.

3. Students will demonstrate the knowledge of behavior strategies to enhance fitness and health behavior changes, specifically in the areas of general health, nutrition, mental health, and athletic performance.

  • Students will understand components of health and fitness plans in order to accommodate client and drive specific physical adaptations/goals.

4. Students will evaluate scientific literature to synthesize relevant information in exercise/fitness to be subject matter experts and contributing members of the field.

Art: Video Game Development
PG1: Development as an Artist
Through course work students will develop an understanding of the fundamentals of aesthetics and technical skills in visual art.
  • SLO1:  Students will develop projects using specified media in a manner that reflects technical skill and appropriate decision making to creatively apply the elements and principles of design.
  • SLO2: Students will analyze and categorize works of art by technical styles, movements, and/or artists.
  • SLO3: Students will engage in critique, suggesting revisions to refine creative perception and decisions, and to improve resulting products.
PG2: Development as a Professional
Through coursework and extracurricular experiences students will develop skills necessary for future careers in the arts as well as broader professional communities.
